We’ve been discussing how some features of real estate, like charges on title, are not readily apparent. An easement is just such a charge. An easement is a legal notation on the title commonly used to grant access from one property over another. A driveway crossing one property to service another would be an example of an easement. Easements generally run with the land – that is, they stay in place even after the property changes hands. They most often remain in place in perpetuity, unless the parties to the easement agree to de-register it.
